1.1 A bill for an act 1.2 proposing an amendment to the Minnesota Constitution, article IV, section 4; 1.3 establishing term limits for legislators. 1.4BE IT ENACTED BY THE LEGISLATURE OF THE STATE OF MINNESOTA: 1.5 Section 1. CONSTITUTIONAL AMENDMENT PROPOSED. 1.6 An amendment to the Minnesota Constitution is proposed to the people. If the amendment 1.7is adopted, article IV, section 4, will read: 1.8 Sec. 4. Representatives shall be chosen for a term of two years, except to fill a vacancy. 1.9Senators shall be chosen for a term of four years, except to fill a vacancy and except there 1.10shall be an entire new election of all the senators at the first election of representatives after 1.11each new legislative apportionment provided for in this article. The governor shall call 1.12elections to fill vacancies in either house of the legislature. 1.13 A person must serve no more than ten years in the Senate and ten years in the House of 1.14Representatives during the person's lifetime. A person must not be elected or appointed as 1.15a member of the Senate or House of Representatives if, by the end of the term to which the 1.16person is elected or appointed, the person will have served more than ten years in the body 1.17to which they would be elected or appointed. 1.18 Sec. 2.
