                    HB1859--BALLOTMEASUREDESIGNATIONS(Eggleston)
Thisbillimposesalabelingrequirementforpoliticalsubdivision
andspecialdistrictballotmeasuresusingsetsoflettersfromthe
alphabetanddoublelettersifneededasspecifiedinthebill.If
ameasureislabeled,butnotvoteduponatthenextelection,then
itretainsitsletterdesignationuntilithasbeenvotedonbythe
people.Thispracticeissimilartothecurrentlawonstatewide
ballotmeasurelabeling.
Thebillrequirestheuseofpaperballotsandphasesouttheuse
ofcertaindirect-recordelectronictouchscreenvotecounting
machines. Ballotmarkingdevicesanddesignatedassistancefor
certainvotersremainsauthorizedundercurrentlaw.
Thebillalsoprohibitsmandatorylanguageusingtermssuchas
"must"or"shall"involvingvotingformultiplecandidatessothat
votersareinformedoftheoptiontovoteornotvoteasthey
please.
"Dropboxes"areprohibitedandaredefinedinthebillas
unattendeddepositoriesforballotsexceptforUnitedStatespostal
mailboxes.
