Thisbillauthorizescountycommissionstouseapartofthe
principalofacemeterytrustfundforthesupportandmaintenance
ofthecemeterywhenthenetincomeofthetrustfundis
insufficientforthosepurposes.

PROPONENTS: Supporterssaythatundercurrentlaw,county
commissionsmayonlyusetheinterestaccruedontheprincipalof
cemeterytrustfundsformaintainingandsupportingtheir
cemeteries. Forthosesmallerorruralcountiesthatdonothavea
largeamountintrustfunds,thisinterestisnotenoughtoprovide
forbasicmaintenancerequired. Thelanguageofthisbillallows
forthecontinuednecessarymaintenanceofcemeteriesfromthe
principalamountofthefundswheninterestisnotsufficient.
Thiswillensurethecontinuedmaintenanceofsmallerandrural
cemeteries. Proponentssaythereisnoriskofanyadditional
coststothestateifanycountycemeterytrustfundisdiminished,
asthefundandmaintenancestillremaintheresponsibility ofthe
county.
