Thisbillchangestherequirementstobecomealandsurveyor.
Currently,apersonmustapplytotheBoardforArchitects,
ProfessionalEngineers,ProfessionalLandSurveyorsand
ProfessionalLandscapeArchitectsforenrollmentasaland
surveyor-in-trainingandmeetcertainrequirementsbeforeapplying
tobecomeaprofessionallandsurveyor.
BeginningJanuary1,2024,thisbillrequiresapersontoapplyfor
enrollmentasalandsurveyorinterninsteadofalandsurveyor-in
training. Toqualifyapersonmustmeetcertainrequirements
specifiedinthebill.
BeginningJanuary1,2024,inordertoapplytotheBoardfor
licensureasaprofessionallandsurveyor,aapplicantmust:
(1)Beahighschoolgraduateorholdahighschoolequivalently
certificate,andholdaBachelor'sdegreeorhavecompletedat
least60hoursofcollegecredit,with15totalsemesterhoursof
approvedsurveyingcoursework,ofwhichatleastsixsemesterhours
areinlegalaspectsoflandsurveying;
(2)Haveacquiredthespecifiedyearsoffieldandoffice
experienceinlandsurveyingundertheimmediatesupervisionofa
professionallandsurveyor. Theyearsofexperiencevarybasedon
educationalrequirementscompletedbytheapplicant;and
(3)HavepassedanyexaminationsrequiredbytheBoard.
Ifapersonisenrolledasalandsurveyor-in-trainingbefore
January1,2024,heorshecanbelicensedasaprofessionalland
surveyoruponmeetingthelicensingrequirementsastheyexistedon
August27,2022.
