Thisbillexpandsonthecriteriaforcareerladderadmissionand
stageachievement. Additionalresponsibilities andvolunteer
effortsoutsideofcompensatedhoursmayincludeuncompensated
coaching,supervising,andorganizingextracurricular activities,
servingasamentorortutortostudents,additionalteacher
trainingorcertification,orassistingstudentswithcollegeor
careerpreparation. Thebillincreasesthestatepercentageof
fundingforsalarysupplementsforcareerladderfrom40%to60%
andlowersthenumberofyearsbeforeateacheriseligiblefrom
fivetotwoyears.
PROPONENTS: Supporterssaythatthisbillrewardsteachersfor
takingextratimeworkingwithstudents,fosteringcommunity
engagementandprofessionaldevelopmentofstudents. Itwould
increaseinteractiontimebetweenparentsandteachersfillingthe
gapoflearninglossthatisbeingexperiencedcurrently. Teacher
recruitmentandretentionissueswouldalsobetakencareof.
