HB115--PHYSICALTHERAPISTS SPONSOR:Shields Thisbillchangesthelawsregardingphysicaltherapistssothatphysicaltherapistsnolongerneeda prescriptionorreferralfromadoctorinordertoevaluateandinitiatetreatmentonapatient,as longasthephysicaltherapisthasaDoctorateofPhysicalTherapyDegreeorhasfiveyearsofclinical practiceasaphysicaltherapist.However,thebilldoesrequireaphysicaltherapisttorefertoan approvedhealthcareprovideranypatientwhoseconditionisbeyondthephysicaltherapist'sscope ofpractice,oranypatientwhodoesnotdemonstratemeasurableorfunctionalimprovementafter 10visitsor21businessdays,whicheveroccursfirst. Thephysicaltherapistmustalsoconsultwithanapprovedhealthcareproviderbeforecontinuing therapyifafter10visitsor21businessdays,whicheveroccursfirst,thepatienthasdemonstrated measurableorfunctionalimprovementfromthephysicaltherapyandthephysicaltherapist believesthatcontinuationofphysicaltherapyisnecessary.Continuedphysicaltherapymustbein accordancewithanydirectionofthehealthcareprovider.Thephysicaltherapistmustnotifythe healthcareproviderofcontinuingphysicaltherapyevery30days.Thebillremovesaprovisionthat allowstheStateBoardofRegistrationfortheHealingArtstofileacomplaintagainstaphysical therapistwhoprovidesphysicaltherapywithoutaprescription.
