Thisbillprovidesthataschoolofficercommissionedbythe
districtschoolboardoraschoolprotectionofficer,asdescribed
underSection160.665,RSMo,shallnotbeprohibitedfromcarrying
afirearmintoanyschool,ontoanyschoolbus,orontothe
premisesofanyfunctionoractivitysponsoredorsanctionedby
schoolofficialsorthedistrictschoolboard.

PROPONENTS: Supporterssaythatitisunfortunatethatwehaveto
talkaboutwhatwearegoingtodowhenthenextschoolshooting
happensbutthatisthereality. Thebillpreventstheprosecution
ofsomeonehiredbytheschooldistricttocarryagunonaschool
campus.Currently,schoolshavearmedofficersinallthe
metropolitanareas,andthatisdonebycontract. Thiseliminates
onebarrierandallowsthemtohirearetiredpoliceofficer,POST
certified,anditisthesamepersonwhowouldrespondtoaschool
shootinganyway.
