Currently,Missouritaxpayersareunabletodeductcertainresearch
andexperimentation expendituresfromtheiradjustedgrossincome
fortaxpurposes. ThislimitationisaresultoftheFederal"Tax
CutsandJobsAct"of2017.
Thisbillde-couplesMissourifromtheprovisionsoftheFederal
law,andallowstaxpayerstodeductspecifiedresearchand
experimentalexpendituresfromtheirFederaladjustedgrossincome,
beginningwiththe2022taxyear.
PROPONENTS: Supporterssaythatbusinessesarenolongerableto
deductcertainexpensesbecauseofaFederaltaxchange,whichhas
resultedinthebusinessrealizingamuchhighernettaxable
income.SuchadeductioninMissouriwillgreatlybenefit
businessesthatconductalotofexperimentation inthedevelopment
oftheirproducts.
