Currently,thesalaryschedulereportpreparedbythe
Superintendent oftheStateHighwayPatrolmustincludea
comparisonofthethreelargestpolicedepartmentsintheState.
Thisbillrequiresthereporttoalsoincludeacomparisonofthe
salariesandbenefitsofpoliceofficersemployedbythelaw
enforcementagencieslocatedinsurroundingstatesasspecifiedin
thebill.
ThisbillisthesameasHB2701(2024).
PROPONENTS: Supporterssaythat,currently,thesuperintendent of
theHighwayPatrolhastodoasalaryschedulereporttomake
recommendations onwhattroopers'salariesshouldbe,and,forthe
report,thesuperintendentlooksatthethreelargestcountiesto
determinewhatthesalariesshouldbe.Thisbillwantsthe
superintendent tolookatthesalariesofthesurroundingstatesas
well.Thiscouldassistintherecruitmentandretentionof
troopers. Troopersaregoingtootherstates,asrecentlyasthe
lastquarterwhenthreetrooperslefttogotoOklahoma. Thereare
otheragenciesinthestatethatpaymorethantheHighwayPatrol
buttheywanttobecomparabletotheHighwayPatrolsofother
states.TheHighwayPatrolhas164vacanciescurrently,andthey
areunabletogetpeopleinthedoortoevenfillthevacancies.
