BeitenactedbytheGeneralAssemblyofthestateofMissouri,asfollows:
SectionA.Sections57.010and57.530,RSMo,arerepealedandtwonewsections
2enactedinlieuthereof,tobeknownassections57.010and57.530,toreadasfollows:
57.010.1.Atthegeneralelectiontobeheldin1948,andateachgeneralelection
2heldeveryfouryearsthereafter,thevotersineverycountyinthisstateshallelectsome
3suitablepersonsheriff.Nopersonshallbeeligiblefortheofficeofsheriffwhohasbeen
4convictedofafelony.Suchpersonshallbearesidenttaxpayerandelectorofsaidcounty,
5shallhaveresidedinsaidcountyformorethanonewholeyearnextbeforefilingforsaid
6officeandshallbeapersoncapableofefficientlawenforcement.Whenanypersonshallbe
7electedsheriff,suchpersonshallenteruponthedischargeofthedutiesofsuchperson'soffice
8aschieflawenforcementofficerofthatcountyonthefirstdayofJanuarynextsucceeding
9saidelection.
10 2.Nopersonshallbeeligiblefortheofficeofsheriffwhodoesnotholdavalidpeace
11officerlicensepursuanttochapter590.Anypersonfilingfortheofficeofsheriffshallhavea
12validpeaceofficerlicenseatthetimeoffilingforoffice.Thissubsectionshallnotapplyto
13thesheriffofanycountyofthefirstclassificationwithacharterformofgovernmentwitha
14populationoverninehundredthousand[orofanycitynotwithinacounty].
57.530.ThesheriffoftheCityofSt.Louisshall,withtheapprovalofamajorityof
2thecircuitjudgesofthecircuitcourtofsaidcity,appointasmanydeputiesandassistantsas
3maybenecessarytoperformthedutiesofhisorheroffice[,and].Thesheriffshallfixthe
