clinicalpathologyservicesthatinvolvesthepathologist's
professionalexpertiseininterpretingandsupervisinglaboratory
tests,excludingthetechnicalcomponentofperformingthe
laboratoryteststhatareprovidedbyhospital-basedpathologists
forinpatientservices. Thereimbursementrateissetat30%of
theapprovedoutpatientfeeschedulebasedonMedicare'sclinical
laboratoryfeeschedule. Paymentsaredirectedtoeitherthe
hospitalorthethird-partyprovider,dependingonwhetherthe
pathologistisemployedbythehospital. TheDepartmentofSocial
Servicesisresponsibleforcreatingnecessaryrulesand
regulationsfortheprovisionsofthisbill.
PROPONENTS: Supporterssaythatthereisacurrentproblemwith
pathologistsbeingpaidforservicestheyprovidetopatientsonMO
HealthNet. Thisbillwouldfixthatproblemandmakesurethe
hospitalsarepayingpathologistswhatisowedtothem.
