HB232 2 52 (13)"Ventricularfibrillation",themostcommonarrhythmiathatcausescardiac 53arrestandaconditioninwhichtheheart'selectricalimpulsessuddenlybecomechaotic, 54oftenwithoutwarning,causingtheheart'spumpingactiontostopabruptly. 55 2.Forthe2026-27schoolyearandallsubsequentschoolyears,eachpublic 56schoolshalldevelopandimplementacardiacemergencyresponseplanthataddresses 57theappropriateuseofschoolpersonneltorespondtoincidentsinvolvinganindividual 58experiencingsuddencardiacarrestorasimilarlife-threateningemergencywhileona 59schoolcampus. 60 3.Membersofeachpublicschool'sadministrationshallcoordinatedirectlywith 61localemergencyservicesproviderstointegratethepublicschool'scardiacemergency 62responseplanintothelocalemergencyservicesproviders'protocols.Acardiac 63emergencyresponseplanshallintegrateevidence-basedcoreelements,suchasthose 64recommendedbytheAmericanHeartAssociationguidelines,ProjectADAM,or 65anothersetofnationallyrecognized,evidence-basedstandardsorcoreelements. 66 4.Thecardiacemergencyresponseplanshallintegrate,ataminimum,the 67followingcoreelements: 68 (1)Establishmentofacardiacemergencyresponseteam; 69 (2)Activationoftheteaminresponsetoasuddencardiacarrest; 70 (3)ImplementationofAEDplacementandroutinemaintenancethroughoutthe 71schoolcampus; 72 (4)Disseminationoftheplanthroughouttheschoolcampus; 73 (5)MaintenanceofongoingstafftraininginCPRandAEDuse; 74 (6)Practiceofthecardiacemergencyresponseplanusingdrillsannually; 75 (7)Integrationoftheplanintothelocalemergencyservicesproviders'protocols; 76and 77 (8)Bothannualandcontinuousreviewsandevaluationsoftheplan. 78 5.AppropriateAEDplacementshallbedictatedbythecardiacemergency 79responseplanandinaccordancewithguidelinessetbytheAmericanHeartAssociation 80ornationallyrecognizedguidelinesfocusedonemergencycardiovascularcare.AnAED 81shouldbeidentifiedwithappropriatesignageandisonsiteorplacedandmadeavailable 82inanunlockedlocationonschoolproperty. 83 6.Forschoolswithanathleticdepartmentororganizedschoolathleticprogram, 84anAEDshallbeclearlymarkedandeasilyaccessibleinanunlockedlocationateach 85schoolathleticvenueandevent.TheAEDshallbeaccessibleduringtheschooldayand 86anyschool-sponsoredathleticeventorteampracticeinwhichpupilsoftheschoolare 87participating.AnAEDshouldbeplacedonavictimwithinthreeminutes.
