ThisbillmodifiesprovisionsrelatingtotheStateAdvisory
CouncilonEmergencyMedicalServices.
Thebillchangesthenumberofcouncilmembersfrom16tonofewer
than13,removestherequirementthatonemembermustbearesident
ofacitynotwithinacounty,andupdatesthecriteriaformember
appointment.
Thisbillchangestheprocedureforelectingachairpersonby
removingthedesignationofthechairpersonbytheGovernorand
insteadrequiringthecounciltoelectthechairpersonoranyother
officerasdeemednecessary.
ThebillremovesaprovisionstatingthattheregionalEMSadvisory
committeesaretoserveasresourcesforidentifyingpotential
membersofthecouncil.
ThisbillisthesameasHCSHB1953(2024).
PROPONENTS: Supporterssaythatitisextremelydifficulttokeep
thisadvisorycouncilproperlystaffedwhilerelyingonlyon
gubernatorialappointmentsforitsmembership. Nearlyhalfofthe
memberscurrentlyservingonthecouncileitherwanttoretireor
havemovedtootherstates.Removingthegeographicrequirement
willallowthecounciltofocusonproviderrepresentation rather
thangeography.
