Thisbilladdssingle-useepinephrinenasalspraytoprovisionsof
statutethatpermitthepossessionandself-administration ofthe
medicationtotreatastudent'schronichealthcondition,suchas
asthmaoranaphylaxis.
Thebillauthorizeseachboardofeducationinthisstatetogrant
permissiontopupils,aswellaseachschoolboardinthisstateto
grantpermissiontoschoolnursestousethismedication.
Thisbilladditionallymodifiesexistingprovisionsforepinephrine
possession,uselimitations,andstocksupplybyaddingsingle-use
epinephrinenasalspraysaseligibleproducts.
Currentlawauthorizesqualifiedfirstresponders,asdefinedin
thebill,toadministerepinephrineauto-injectorstoapersonwho
issufferingfromanapparentanaphylacticreaction. Thisbill
extendsthatauthorizationtosingle-useepinephrinenasalsprays.
ThisbillisthesameasHB165(2025).
PROPONENTS: Supporterssaythattherearearound27,000students
inpublicschoolsthroughouttheState,andnurseshavearound50
differentdiagnoseswherethereportthereofmustbesenttoDHSS.
Whenpeopledohaveallergicreactions,noteveryoneiscomfortable
injectingthemselvesorsomeoneelse,andmanyruralschoolsdonot
evenhaveaschoolnursetoadminister.
