Thisbillchangesthedefinitionof"abortion"toanymedical
treatmentintendedtoinducetheterminationofapregnancyexcept
forthepurposeofproducingalivebirth.Thebillremovesthe
definitionof"unbornchild"andmodifiesthedefinitionof
"viability"tothepointinapregnancywhen,inthegoodfaith
medicaljudgmentofaphysicianorbecauseoftheparticularfacts
ofthecasebeforethatphysician,thereisareasonablelikelihood
ofthefetus’ssustainedsurvivaloutsidetheuteruswithoutthe
applicationofextraordinarymedicalmeasures.
ThebillrequiresthattheStateprotectaperson’srightto
terminateapregnancypriortoviabilityofthefetusorif
necessarytoprotectaperson’slifeorhealthasdeterminedbya
licensedphysician. Thebillprohibitsprosecutionoraproceeding
underStatecriminallaworotherwiseforactsthatareauthorized
orpermittedundertheseprovisions.
