Thisbillcreatesaregistrationprocesstoallowhealthinsurance
reimbursementofdoulaservices.
Thebilldefinestheterm"doula"asanindividualwhohasbeen
trainedtoprovidephysical,emotional,andeducationalsupport,
butnotmedicalormidwiferycare,topregnantandbirthingwomen
andtheirfamiliesbefore,during,andafterchildbirth.
TheDepartmentofHealthandSeniorServicesisrequiredtocreate
thecriteriafordoularegistrationapplications. Increatingthe
criteriatheDepartmentmustconsultwithrelevantorganizations
thatsupportaccesstocommunity-baseddoulaservices,asspecified
inthebill.
TheDepartmentmustreviewandapprovedoularegistrationstoallow
forhealthinsurancereimbursementoftheseservicesandmaintaina
statewideregistryofapproveddoulas.
Thisbilldoesnotrequireapersontoregisterasadoulaunder
theseprovisionsifheorshedoesnotwanttobeeligiblefor
healthinsurancereimbursement.
