deathofdogsandcats,withapenaltyprovision.
BeitenactedbytheGeneralAssemblyofthestateofMissouri,asfollows:
SectionA.Chapter273,RSMo,isamendedbyaddingtheretoonenewsection,tobe
2knownassection273.361,toreadasfollows:
273.361.1.Exceptasprovidedinsubsection2ofthissection,thesolemethodof
2inducingthedeathofadogoracatinananimalcontrolagency,animalshelter,or
3pound,assuchtermsaredefinedinsection273.325,shallbetheinjectionofsodium
4pentobarbitaloraderivativethereof.Theuseofanyothermethodtoinducethedeath
5ofadogoracatincluding,butnotlimitedto,theuseofnonanestheticinhalantssuchas
6carbonmonoxideorcarbondioxidegas,adecompressionchamber,electrocution,
7gunshot,bluntforcetrauma,orinjectionofaneuromuscularblockingagent,shallbean
8offenseasprovidedinsection273.347.
9 2.Notwithstandinganyprovisionofsubsection1ofthissectiontothecontrary,
10anysubstancethatisclinicallyproventobeashumaneassodiumpentobarbitaland
11thathasbeenofficiallyrecognizedassuchbytheAmericanVeterinaryMedical
12Associationmaybeusedinlieuofsodiumpentobarbitaltoinducethedeathofadogor
13acatifthedirectorhasdeterminedthatthereisashortageofsodiumpentobarbital.
14Anysuchdeterminationmadebythedirectorshallbevalidforaone-yearperiod
15beginningonthedatesuchdeterminationwasmade.
16 3.Neitherachamberthatusescommerciallybottledcarbonmonoxidegasor
17otherlethalgasnorachamberthatcausesachangeinbodyoxygenbymeansofaltering
