Thisbillprovidesthatapersoncommitstheoffenseofunlawful
possessionofafirearmifthepersonknowinglyhasafirearmin
theirpossessionandhasbeenconvictedofdomesticviolenceoris
subjecttoanorderofprotection.
Thisbillempowersacourtafterissuinganorderofprotectionto
alsoprohibittherespondentfromknowinglypossessingor
purchasingafirearmwhiletheorderisineffect,informingthe
respondentinwriting,andforwardingtheordertotheState
HighwayPatrolsoitmayupdatetherespondent'srecordinthe
NationalInstantCriminalBackgroundCheckSystem(NICS).The
StateHighwayPatrolmustalsonotifytheFBIwithin24hours.
Thebillprovidesthatuponaperson'sconvictionofdomestic
assaultinthefourthdegreeorstalkingintheseconddegree,the
courtmustforwardtherecordofconvictiontotheStateHighway
Patrol.TheStateHighwayPatrolmustupdatetherespondent's
recordinNICSwithin24hours.
Thebillhasanemergencyclause.
