MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Calvert House Concurrent Resolution 60 (As Adopted by House) A CONCURRENT RESOLUTION RECOGNIZING APRIL 6-12, 2025, AS JUNIOR AUXILIARY WEEK IN MISSISSIPPI AND COMMENDING THE JUNIOR AUXILIARY OF MERIDIAN ON ITS TREMENDOUS SUCCESS IN SUPPORTING CHILDREN AND FAMILIES IN MERIDIAN AND LAUDERDALE COUNTY. WHEREAS, Junior Auxiliary, a volunteer organization that provides members an opportunity to serve and be a vital part of their communities through local chapter service projects, was founded on the principles of helping children and making a difference in their lives; and WHEREAS, formed on November 3, 1941, in Greenville, Mississippi, when 100 representative organizations from nine towns in Mississippi and Arkansas, including Meridian, united together, the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, Inc., has as its mission to encourage member chapters to render charitable services that are beneficial to the general public, with particular emphasis on children, and to cooperate with other organizations performing similar services; and WHEREAS, the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian, Inc., one of the ten charter chapters of the 83-year-old national association, represents a serious endeavor on the part of women to be active and constructive participants in the community and to assume responsible leadership in meeting community needs; and WHEREAS, since its founding in 1941, the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian has demonstrated an unwavering commitment to serving the children and families of Meridian and Lauderdale County through impactful service projects, including several worthwhile initiatives in place today, such as: Teacher Mini-Grants, which provides grants to educators in support of innovative educational projects; Helping Hands, which works with school counselors to identify needs and provide school uniforms and other basic necessities to local school children; Junior Auxiliary Mentors (JAMs), which provides mentoring to teens in foster care at Hope Village; Reading is Fundamental (RIF), through which members read aloud to local elementary school students and books are distributed free of charge to children; Crown Club, a program providing high school young ladies with an opportunity to grow through leadership and service to others in the community; and the Provisional Class Project, which is an annual service project created to address a community need; and WHEREAS, volunteering thousands of service hours annually through these and other projects, members of the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian continue to make a lasting difference in Meridian and throughout Lauderdale County, providing essential resources, mentorship, educational support, and enrichment opportunities that enhance the lives of children and families in need; and WHEREAS, it is most appropriate that a specific week be designated for all citizens, civic and fraternal groups, news media and other community organizations to recognize and celebrate the invaluable contributions and lasting impact which dedicated Junior Auxiliary volunteers are making in their local communities, thereby bettering not only the lives of their fellow Mississippians but also the entire state: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, THE SENATE CONCURRING THEREIN, That we do hereby recognize and celebrate the week of April 6-12, 2025, as Junior Auxiliary Week in the State of Mississippi and commend the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian on its tremendous success in supporting children and families in Meridian and Lauderdale County. BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Junior Auxiliary of Meridian, Inc., the National Association of Junior Auxiliaries, Inc., and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
