MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative McMillan House Resolution 109 (As Adopted by House) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2024-2025 GERMANTOWN HIGH SCHOOL BOYS BASKETBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH CHRIS LOVE UPON WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION CLASS 7A STATE BASKETBALL CHAMPIONSHIP. WHEREAS, the Germantown High School Boys Basketball Team reigned supreme after finishing the 2024-2025 season with an impressive record and defeating Madison Central High School 69-52 to win the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 7A Boys Basketball Championship on February 27, 2025; and WHEREAS, throughout their season of play, the Mavericks played with clear eyes, full hearts and unimaginable amounts of fortitude, and during the state championship game, their mental stamina and athletic prowess never wavered from the moment they first hustled onto the court until the final buzzer buzzed, as they outlasted, outplayed and ultimately overpowered their opponent; and WHEREAS, Germantown led 20-12 after the first quarter and held a 29-21 advantage at halftime, and the team outscored Madison Central 23-14 in the third quarter, building a 24-point lead in the fourth before closing out the win; and WHEREAS, Michael Williams led Germantown with 22 points, making three three-pointers and all five free throw attempts, and Mason Williams added 16 points and six rebounds, while Samuel Funches IV contributed 16 points and seven rebounds, and Germantown shot 53.1% from the field and scored 34 points in the paint; and WHEREAS, the Germantown High School Boys Basketball Team is comprised of the following talented student-athletes: Mason Williams, Michael Williams, Kevontae Baldwin, Aubrey Norman, Derrick Lovett, Timothy Simmons, Devin Moore, Kristan Wilson, Christopher Jones, Michael Johnson and Sam Funches, and managers Thomas Brister, William Nelson and Luke Sheehan; and WHEREAS, the Mavericks have been superbly coached and inspired by Head Coach Chris Love and Assistant Coaches Ivory Bowie and Terik Richardson, who have broadened the players' knowledge of the game and refined their skills in execution, and they continue to build upon the legacy of superior play and true sportsmanship forged by the tenacious and undaunted spirit of each team member; and WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially that displayed by the Germantown High School Boys Basketball Team, and it is with great pride that we congratulate this elite group of student-athletes and Head Coach Chris Love, who have brought honor to their school and to the great State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2024-2025 Germantown High School Boys Basketball Team and Head Coach Chris Love upon winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association Class 7A State Basketball Championship, and extend best wishes to the team for continued success in all their future endeavors.
