                    MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Creekmore IV House Resolution 112 A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE 2024-2025 MYRTLE ATTENDANCE CENTER GIRLS CROSS COUNTRY TEAM FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP.      WHEREAS, the 2024-2025 Myrtle Attendance Center Girls Cross Country Team finished their season in an outstanding fashion as they reigned supreme at the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A State Championship on October 31, 2024; and      WHEREAS, these dedicated young women outlasted and outpaced their competitors as they raced along the Robert and Rebecca Watson Cross Country Course at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Mississippi, relying on their swift feet and fierce spirit to propel them past the finish line to ultimate victory; and      WHEREAS, with fervent determination and dauntless fortitude powering their every step, the team finished the 5K run with an impressive 34 points, an average time of 22:16.96, and a total time of 1:51:24.80, culminating in the second consecutive state championship title for the program; and      WHEREAS, anchored by standout individual performances, the team stepped up and showed out to defy the odds at the championship race, with four runners placing in the top 14 and thus making All State; and      WHEREAS, three of the team's seven members finished in the top five, a truly remarkable accomplishment considering 74 of the state's best runners participated in the race; and      WHEREAS, throughout the season, these dedicated student-athletes pushed through long hours of hard work and intense training to hone their skills, giving them the tools they needed to go the distance, and some were able to set new personal records on their run times, proving champions are made in practice; and      WHEREAS, the team's ascent to the pinnacle of cross country excellence has been made manifest through the tenacious efforts of athletes:  Ally Murphy (1st), Mady Hogue (2nd), Abby Fuller (5th), Peyton Thompson (12th), Leah Merritt (16th), Riley Plymel (26th), and Lilly Beth Maness; and      WHEREAS, the back-to-back state champions have been superbly coached and inspired by Coach Sheena Murphy and Coach Jennifer Fuller, who have broadened the team's knowledge of the sport, refined their skills in execution, and encouraged them to chase their dreams; and       WHEREAS, the success of the cross country program at Myrtle Attendance Center is due to the incredible support and resources made available from the parents, coaches, and especially the administration; and      WHEREAS, the members of this team will surely carry the unforgettable memories they have made, as well as the lessons of teamwork, dedication, and perseverance they have learned, throughout their lives as they remember the feeling of greatness that accompanies being a champion; and      WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially that displayed by the Myrtle Attendance Center Girls Cross Country Team, and it is with great pride that we congratulate this elite group of student-athletes, who have brought honor to their school, Union County, and the entire State of Mississippi:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the 2024-2025 Myrtle Attendance Center Girls Cross Country Team for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A State Championship, and extend best wishes to the team for continued success in all their future endeavors.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That copies of this resolution be furnished to the Myrtle Attendance Center Girls Cross Country Team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
