                    MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Hood House Resolution 22 (As Adopted by House) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING THE CHOCTAW COUNTY HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL TEAM ON WINNING THE 2024 MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 3A FOOTBALL CHAMPIONSHIP AND BRINGING HOME THE TEAM'S FIRST CHAMPIONSHIP IN THE SCHOOL'S HISTORY.      WHEREAS, the outstanding young men of the Choctaw County High School Football Team honored their school by bringing home the 2024 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 3A football championship win; and      WHEREAS, most impressive is the fact that these young men brought the school its first state championship and first North Half championship wins in the school's history; and      WHEREAS, they won the state championship by defeating Noxubee County 34-27 at MM Roberts Stadium on the campus of the University of Southern Mississippi on December 5, 2024; and      WHEREAS, in this high endurance game, the Chargers scored on first possession to take a 7-0 lead in the first quarter, Noxubee County tied the game at 14 late in first quarter, but the Chargers regained the lead at 13-7 on a second quarter touchdown by Jeramiah Miller; and       WHEREAS, tensions calmed as the Chargers scored a touchdown with seven seconds left in the first half on a 16-yard pass by KJ Cork to Chancen Mosley leaving the halftime score at 20-13; and      WHEREAS, even though Noxubee County answered in the fourth quarter with a touchdown and a two-point conversion with 9:39 left in the game to make the score 34-27, the Chargers defense made a solid stand on 4th down with 1:45 seconds left in the fourth quarter to seal the win with linebacker Elmar Gladney bringing pressure and Chevez Sellers breaking up a Noxubee county pass; and      WHEREAS, the championship was captured with a Jack Hood walk off punt ending the game with 34-27; and      WHEREAS, this impressive team was established in 2013, by consolidating Ackerman High School and Weir High School; and      WHEREAS, the players had a remarkable season and etched its name in the school's history books by earning the most wins in school history with an overall record of 14-1; and the most points scored in a season for the team with 610 points; and      WHEREAS, the team averaged 40 points per game, even though a team is only allowed an average of 16 points per game; and      WHEREAS, with a running clock in 9 of 15 games, this fierce team had over 5,000 yards of total offense; and       WHEREAS, quarterback KJ Cork set a single season passing record for Choctaw County High School with 2,225 yards and threw 21 touchdown passes; and      WHEREAS, Jeramiah Miller led the team in scoring with 28 touchdowns, was the rushing leader with 2,095 yards on 196 attempts and an average of 10.7 yards per carry; and      WHEREAS, the team's leading receiver Caleb Cunningham represented well throughout the season with 42 receptions for 877 yards and 13 touchdowns; and      WHEREAS, linebacker Elmar Gladney led the team in tackles with 62 tackles and 25 assists; and      WHEREAS, defensive back Quaysie Lane and linebacker Elmar Gladney tied for a number of interceptions with three each; and      WHEREAS, they also defeated their rivals Winona and East Webster twice in one season; and      WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we celebrate this group of outstanding young student-athletes who have brought great honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi:      NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Choctaw County High School "Chargers" Football Team for winning the 2024 Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 3A Football Championship win, the school's first state championship and first North Half championship.      BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, That this resolution be furnished to the coach of the Choctaw County High School Football Team and to the members of the Capitol Press Corps.
