MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Tullos House Resolution 77 (As Adopted by House) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE STRINGER ATTENDANCE CENTER LADY DEVILS VOLLEYBALL TEAM FOR WINNING THE MISSISSIPPI HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES ASSOCIATION (MHSAA) CLASS 1A STATE CHAMPIONSHIP, THE FIRST IN SCHOOL HISTORY. WHEREAS, the Stringer Attendance Center Lady Devils Volleyball Team has brought honor and pride to the Jasper County, Mississippi school system by winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A State Championship, their first in school history; and WHEREAS, the Stringer Attendance Center Volleyball Team demonstrated their ability with their dedication, perseverance and leadership throughout their season of play, and they intensely amplified all of their hard work for the championship series to prove once and for all that the Lady Devils are the queens of Mississippi 1A volleyball; and WHEREAS, the Lady Devils completed the 2024-2025 season with a 23-6 overall record and with a perfect 6-0 region record, and after winning the South State Championship for three years in a row and then beating West Union Attendance Center in a championship matchup that left fans on the edge of their seat until the final point was scored, the Lady Devils were finally able to bring the State Championship trophy back to the Stringer Attendance Center trophy case; and WHEREAS, during the championship series, Stringer established dominance from the start, opening the game with a 6-1 run to gain early momentum, and a 7-2 run midway through the set and a closing 7-2 run gave the Lady Devils a 25-13 opening-set win; and WHEREAS, West Union made it interesting in the second set, jumping out to a 15-7 lead by going on a 12-2 run, but after a moving speech from their coach during a timeout about not letting their emotions dictate how they play, the Lady Devils went on a 12-3 run to take the lead; and WHEREAS, after senior Rylei Pickerell reminded the team of their season mantra to just take things one point at a time, Stringer was able to keep the lead and momentum to take a 25-21 set win despite West Union's best efforts; and WHEREAS, during the third set, the Lady Devils and Lady Eagles swapped the lead early, but Stringer took control again with a 9-0 run to take a commanding 19-8 lead, and senior Madilyn Graham, who was selected as the game's Most Valuable Player, utilized a powerful jump serve to score the final point, cementing the Lady Devils' championship dreams with a 25-12 win and a sweep of West Union; and WHEREAS, the title victory capped off an outstanding run for the Lady Devils, whose last loss came against 5A South Jones in September 2024, and they won every set they played between that loss and a 3-1 victory over Resurrection Catholic for the South State championship; and WHEREAS, in addition to winning the state championship, two players, Rylei Pickerell and Natalie Aplin, have both committed to play college volleyball at East Central Community College, the first time in school history that any volleyball player has gone on to play at the next level; and WHEREAS, the success of the volleyball program at Stringer Attendance Center is due to the incredible support and resources made available from the parents, coaches, and especially the administration; and WHEREAS, the Stringer Attendance Center Lady Devils Girls Volleyball Team is comprised of the following talented athletes: Brylee Townsend, Lilly Sylvester, Ava Jefcoat, Jaycee Holifield, Semaj Bridges, Riley King, Dixie Rayner, Kayleigh Douglas, Rylei Pickerell, Marley Townsend, Jaicee Brady, Madilyn Graham, Breagan Landon, Payton Farris, Preslee Cook, Natalie Aplin and Natelee Prunera; and WHEREAS, Head Coach Landon White and Assistant Coach Amie Buckley coached an amazing group of girls, and they have furthered the team's knowledge of the game as well as sharpened their skills and execution; and WHEREAS, the team will surely carry the unforgettable memories they made along the way and the lessons of hard work, dedication and perseverance learned during this amazing season throughout their lives, and they will always remember the feeling of greatness that accompanies being a champion; and WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend excellence, especially that displayed by the Stringer Attendance Center Lady Devils Volleyball Team, and it is with great pride that we congratulate this elite group of student-athletes, who have brought honor to Stringer Attendance Center, Jasper County and to the State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Stringer Attendance Center Lady Devils Volleyball Team for winning the Mississippi High School Activities Association (MHSAA) Class 1A State Championship, the first in school history, and extend best wishes for continued success in all their future endeavors.
