MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Representative Anthony House Resolution 95 (As Adopted by House) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING SARITA "BUGG" COOPER-WHITE UPON HER SELECTION AS AN INDUCTEE INTO THE DELTA STATE UNIVERSITY CLASS OF 2025 SPORTS HALL OF FAME. WHEREAS, Delta State University Athletics has announced its Class of 2025 Hall of Fame inductees, a distinguished group representing excellence in women's basketball, football, baseball, golf, and swimming and diving; and WHEREAS, Sarita "Bugg" Cooper-White, a native of Indianola, Mississippi, and a legendary figure in women's basketball, has earned her place in this esteemed Hall of Fame due to her outstanding career and lasting contributions to the sport at both the high school and collegiate levels as a player and coach; and WHEREAS, before embarking on her collegiate career, Sarita Cooper-White established herself as a dominant force at Gentry High School, leading the Lady Rams to an undefeated 40-0 season and a Class 4A State Championship in 2006-2007 while earning the titles of "Miss Basketball" and Class 4A Player of the Year for the State of Mississippi, being named to The Clarion-Ledger's "Dandy Dozen," selected for the North/South Junior All-Star Game where she received the Defensive MVP Award, chosen for the Alabama All-Star Game in her senior year, recognized as an MHSAA All-State selection in both her junior and senior seasons, and honored with Team MVP, Leadership Award and Best Defensive Player distinctions in her junior and senior years of high school competition; and WHEREAS, Cooper-White played for the Delta State University Lady Statesmen from 2007-2011, where she was a two-time All-American in 2010 and 2011, an All-Gulf South Conference selection from 2009-2011, and an All-Region selection in 2009 and 2010; and WHEREAS, during her tenure at Delta State, she amassed 1,027 career points, 530 rebounds, 963 assists, and 249 steals, ranking third all-time in NCAA Division II history for career assists and setting program records at both Delta State and in Gulf South Conference history; and WHEREAS, Cooper-White led NCAA Division II in assists for three consecutive seasons and was named to the Gulf South Conference West Division All-Decade Second Team, solidifying her legacy as one of the most exceptional playmakers in women's college basketball; and WHEREAS, following her collegiate career, she transitioned into coaching, serving as Head Coach at Gentry High School from 2017-2019, where she led the team to three consecutive district championships and earned District Coach of the Year honors each year; and WHEREAS, in the 2024-2025 season, she took the helm as Head Coach at Washington School, guiding the Lady Generals to a 26-7 record, the MAIS 4A North State Championship, and a runner-up finish in the MAIS 4A State Championship, further showcasing her leadership and coaching acumen; and WHEREAS, the Delta State University Sports Hall of Fame selection process is a testament to the excellence, dedication, and perseverance demonstrated by its inductees, and Sarita Cooper-White has proven herself worthy of this prestigious recognition through her remarkable playing career and coaching success; and WHEREAS, it is the policy of the House of Representatives to recognize and commend outstanding individuals such as Sarita "Bugg" Cooper-White, who have brought honor to their alma mater, their community and the State of Mississippi through their athletic and professional achievements: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE HOUSE OF REPRESENTATIVES OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate Sarita "Bugg" Cooper-White upon her selection as an inductee into the Delta State University Class of 2025 Sports Hall of Fame and extend to her our best wishes for continued success in all her future endeavors.
