MISSISSIPPI LEGISLATURE 2025 Regular Session To: Rules By: Senator(s) Harkins Senate Resolution 107 (As Adopted by Senate) A RESOLUTION COMMENDING AND CONGRATULATING THE NORTHWEST RANKIN HIGH SCHOOL LADY COUGARS SOFTBALL TEAM AND HEAD COACH MIKE ARMSTRONG FOR WINNING BACK TO BACK MHSAA CLASS 6A/7A STATE CHAMPIONSHIPS. WHEREAS, we join the students, faculty, administration and parents of Northwest Rankin High School in recognizing the Lady Cougars Softball Team and Coach Mike Armstrong for back-to-back State Championships; and WHEREAS, on May 16, 2024, the Northwest Rankin Lady Cougars Softball Team was one strike away from its first loss of the season in Game 1 of the MHSAA Class 7A State Championship. It trailed Hernando 4-0 entering the bottom of the seventh inning until rallying for five runs and a walk-off victory; and WHEREAS, with a 6-3 win in Game 2 the next night at the Southern Miss Softball Complex, Northwest Rankin (34-0) completed its undefeated season with the 7A championship. Northwest Rankin not only won the 6A title last season, it also ended the 2024 season with no losses. Northwest Rankin had blown the game open in the top of the sixth inning with six runs to take a 12-3 lead, but in the middle of the inning, the game was put into a weather delay before ultimately being called; and WHEREAS, the 2024 MHSAA Softball State Championship Northwest Rankin High School roster: Brooke Smith, Elisabeth Collier, Grace Wallis, Jade Jenkins, Jolie Hays, Chloe Miller, Carlee Tubbs, Hannah Sullivan, Jaliya Sullivan, Tavia Archie, Madalyn Smith, Kaitlyn Gentry, Oliva Higginbotham, Katelyn Kirkpatrick, Madison York, Jayla Sites, Molly Anderson, Callie Desmond, Hayden Hodge, Madeline Sowell, Oliva Skinner, Olivia Kate Johnson, and Head Coach Mike Armstrong; and WHEREAS, it is with great pride that we recognize this group of student athletes who have brought honor to their school, their community and to the State of Mississippi: NOW, THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF MISSISSIPPI, That we do hereby commend and congratulate the Northwest Rankin High School Lady Cougars Softball Team and Head Coach Mike Armstrong for winning back-to-back MHSAA Class 6A/7A State Championships, and extend to the team, coaches, administration, parents and sponsors our best wishes for future success.
