A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1 
AN ACT TO DIRECT THE UNIVERSITY OF NORTH CAROLINA SCHOOL OF 2 
MEDICINE'S AREA HEALTH EDUCATION CENTER S TO COMPILE AND 3 
DISSEMINATE INFORMATION ON SUDDEN UNEXPECTED DEATH IN EPILEPSY 4 
INFORMATION TO HEALTH CARE PRACTITIONERS AND 	PROVIDE A 5 
CORRESPONDING REPORT TO THE JOINT LEGISLATIVE OVERSIGHT 6 
COMMITTEE ON HEALTH AND HUMAN SERVICES. 7 
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 8 
SECTION 1. The University of North Carolina School of Medicine's Area Health 9 
Education Centers (NC AHEC) shall consult with the North Carolina Medical Board, North 10 
Carolina Department of Health and Human Services, North Carolina Medical Society, North 11 
Carolina Pediatric Society, North Carolina Academy of Family Physicians, North Carolina Board 12 
of Nursing, North Carolina Board of Pharmacy, and the North Carolina Nurses Association to 13 
gather evidence-based information on sudden unexpected death in epilepsy from publications 14 
and nonprofit organizations to create standard information to provide to all health care 15 
practitioners in this State. The information shall include, at a minimum, current and 16 
evidence-based information about sudden unexpected death in epilepsy risk factors and 17 
conditions and contact information for nonprofit organizations that provide support services for 18 
epilepsy conditions. The information shall be made available on NC AHEC's website and readily 19 
accessible to health care practitioners in this State. No later than September 1, 2025, NC AHEC 20 
shall report to the Joint Legislative Oversight Committee on Health and Human Services a 21 
completed summary or booklet of information provided to health care practitioners in the report. 22 
SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law. 23
