Referred to: *DRS35019 -NMe-18* A BILL TO BE ENTITLED 1 AN ACT TO PROVIDE THAT REGULAR MUNICIPAL ELECTIONS IN THE TOWN OF 2 CHINA GROVE SHALL BE HELD IN EVEN -NUMBERED YEARS . 3 The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 4 SECTION 1.(a) Article III of the Charter of the Town of China Grove, being Chapter 5 42 of the 2002 Session Laws, reads as rewritten: 6 "ARTICLE III. ELECTIONS. 7 "Section 3.1. Regular Municipal Elections. Regular municipal elections shall be held in 8 each odd-numbered even-numbered year in accordance with the uniform municipal election laws 9 of North Carolina. Elections shall be conducted on a nonpartisan basis and the results determined 10 using the nonpartisan plurality method as provided in G.S. 163-292. 11 "Section 3.2. Election of Aldermen. The Town shall continue to have staggered terms for its 12 Aldermen. Two Three Aldermen shall be elected at the regular municipal election in 2003 2026 13 to four-year terms and quadrennially thereafter. Three Two Aldermen shall be elected at the 14 regular municipal election in 2005 2028 to four-year terms and quadrennially thereafter. 15 "Section 3.3. Election of Mayor. A Mayor shall be elected in the regular municipal election 16 in 2003 2028 to a four-year term and quadrennially thereafter. 17 …." 18 SECTION 1.(b) No municipal elections shall be conducted in the Town of China 19 Grove in 2025. The terms of office for the three Aldermen serving on the effective date of this 20 act whose terms are set to expire in 2025 are extended by one year. The terms of the two 21 Aldermen and the Mayor serving on the effective date of this act whose terms are set to expire 22 in 2027 are extended by one year. Regular municipal elections shall be conducted in the Town 23 of China Grove in even-numbered years beginning in 2026 and biennially thereafter. 24 SECTION 2.
