AN ACT TO PROVIDE FOR INSTRUCTION IN CRITICAL THINKING IN PUBLIC 2
ELEMENTARY SCHOOLS . 3
The General Assembly of North Carolina enacts: 4
SECTION 1. Part 1 of Article 8 of Chapter 115C of the General Statutes is amended 5
by adding a new section to read: 6
"ยง 115C-81.77. Critical thinking. 7
The standard course of study shall include that the public schools provide instruction in 8
critical thinking in kindergarten through grade five so that students can learn to evaluate 9
information rather than simply memorize it." 10
SECTION 2. This act is effective when it becomes law and applies beginning with 11
the 2025-2026 school year. 12
