Under the bill, beginning October 1, 2025, each police officer employed by a city of the first class will contribute a sum equal to 9% of their salary to the retirement system. Under Nebraska Revised Statute ยง16-1006, each city of the first class which employs any police officer is required to contribute a sum equal to the amount contributed from such police officer's salary to the retirement system. As a result, LB 179 would also provide that beginning October 1, 2025, each city of the first class which employs any police officer will contribute a sum equal to 9% of such police officer's salary to the retirement system.
