The following constitutes the reasons for this bill and the purposes which are sought to be
accomplished thereby:
LB271 adopts criminal penalties for interference with railroad infrastructure, equipment, and
personnel. Criminal violations are classified as Class IIIA felonies.
The resolution ensures railroad property is not tampered with by criminal actors and that
persons causing train derailments can be charged with a crime that more accurately reflects
the severity of the crime.
