One Hundred Ninth Legislature - First Session - 2025 Introducer€s Statement of Intent LB352 € Chairperson: Senator Dave Murman Committee: Education Date of Hearing: January 27, 2025 € The following constitutes the reasons for this bill and the purposes which are sought to be accomplished thereby: In 2021, the Legislature passed LB 154, which required the Department of Education to compile data from school districts to track discipline data, including seclusion and restraint data. LB 154 amended Section 79-760.05 of the Quality Education Accountability Act to require the State Board of Education to implement, on or before August 1, 2022, a statewide system for tracking individual student discipline. LB 154 required the Department of Education to collect the requisite data and provide an annual report to the Legislature and to other designated recipients. € Legislative Bill 352 would further the intent of LB 154 by amending Section 79-760.05 to require the Department of Education to collect discipline data from school districts and to make a database for the public that contains all student discipline data, de-identified. The database shall be searchable by such factors as by school district, type of discipline imposed, type of restraint, type of seclusion, and other factors. LB 352 also directs that the Department of Education shall create and publish an annual report on such data. € € Principal Introducer:________________________________ Senator Beau Ballard - 1 -
