The following constitutes the reasons for this bill and the purposes which are sought to be
accomplished thereby:
LB 383 would establish the Parental Rights in Social Media Act, requiring social media
companies to obtain parental consent before allowing a minor to open a social media account.
Additionally, LB 383 would ensure that social media platforms provide parents with
oversight tools to monitor and manage their childs account activity.€ The bill grants
enforcement authority to the Nebraska Attorney General, allowing for penalties of up to
$2500.00 per violation.  The act would take effect on January 1, 2026.
