Summary of purpose and/or changes:
LR17 will allow the Game and Parks Commission to indicate intent to incorporate Camp Augustine, which is currently
owned by the city of Grand Island, into the state park system. Camp Augustine is a 156-acre campground formerly
owned by the Boy Scouts of America and located adjacent to Mormon Island State Recreation Area. Under section
37-342, the Commission must have legislative approval before it indicates to the City of Grand Island the intent to so
incorporate. Following approval by the Legislature of LR 17, discussions can begin regarding potential methods of
acquisition, scope of maintenance of the property, and costs involved.
