ASSEMBLY LABOR COMMITTEE STATEMENT TO ASSEMBLY, No. 3025 with committee amendments STATE OF NEW JERSEY DATED: JUNE 6, 2024 The Assembly Labor Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Assembly Bill No. 3025. As amended, this bill exempts wages earned as a poll worker from affecting an individual’s unemployment compensation. This bill exempts services performed as a temporary board worker of a district board of elections who receives compensation for the discharge of election duties from the definition of “employment” in the unemployment compensation law. This bill was prefiled for introduction in the 2024-2025 session pending technical review. As reported, the bill includes the changes required by technical review, which has been performed. COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS : The committee amended the bill to: 1. update the reference from a member, to a temporary board worker of a district board of elections who receives compensation for the discharge of election duties, including mail-in ballot processing, from the definition of “employment” in the unemployment compensation law; 2. revise the term “remuneration,” regarding unemployment, to include work as a temporary board worker during the period before and after an election day and includes mail-in ballot processing; and 3. make technical changes to incorporate statutory revisions that were made to the underlying law amended in section 1 of the bill.
