ASSEMBLY CHILDREN, FAMILIES AND FOOD SECURITY COMMITTEE STATEMENT TO ASSEMBLY, No. 4132 with committee amendments STATE OF NEW JERSEY DATED: MAY 16, 2024 The Assembly Children, Families and Food Security Committee reports favorably and with committee amendments Assembly Bill No. 4132. As amended by the committee, this bill adds four substances to the general prohibition on adulterated commercial food for human consumption. It is unlawful for any entity in this State to distribute, sell, manufacture for sale or distribution, or possess with intent to sell or distribute, any adulterated food. Each violation of the State Sanitary Code constitutes a separate offense and is punishable by a penalty of not less than $50 and not more than $1,000. This bill adds brominated vegetable oil, potassium bromate, propylparaben, and red dye 3 to the conditions that deem food for human consumption adulterated COMMITTEE AMENDMENTS The committee amended the bill to stipulate that the bill’s provisions apply to food for human consumption that is adulterated. The committee amendments replace the term “it” and “its” with the term “the food.” The committee amendments make various technical corrections involving grammar, syntax, and punctuation. The committee amended the bill to provide technical changes to the synopsis and title to reflect the changes made by the committee amendments.
