S1433 SINGLETON 2 AN ACT designating the bridge over Crosswicks Creek on Interstate 1 Highway Route 295 North in honor of Army Specialist Benjamin 2 Moore and the 693rd Sapper Company. 3 4 WHEREAS, Army Specialist Benjamin G. Moore of Bordentown 5 gave his life for his country on January 12, 2011, while stationed 6 in Afghanistan; and 7 WHEREAS, As a lifelong resident of New Jersey, Mr. Moore cared 8 for others from an early age, both as a fireman and as an 9 emergency medical technician for Hope Hose Humane Company 10 No. 1 of Bordentown City, Union Fire Company No. 1 of 11 Crosswicks, DeCou Hose Company No. 1 of Hamilton 12 Township, Westampton Township Emergency Services, Capital 13 Health, and Trenton Emergency Medical Services; and 14 WHEREAS, Mr. Moore was known as the "Mayor of Bordentown" 15 and was awarded the title of "Honorary Chief" of Hope Hose 16 Humane Company No. 1 of Bordentown City; and 17 WHEREAS, Mr. Moore joined the United States Army in April 2009, 18 trained at Fort Leonard Wood, Missouri, and was stationed in 19 Fort Drum, New York in September 2009; and 20 WHEREAS, Mr. Moore served with the 693rd Sapper Company, 7th 21 Engineer Battalion, 10th Sustainment Brigade, 10th Mountain 22 Division; and 23 WHEREAS, On January 12, 2011, Mr. Moore tragically lost his life 24 while serving his country in Ghazni Province, Afghanistan; and 25 WHEREAS, Mr. Moore received many awards and decorations 26 including the Bronze Star Medal, the Purple Heart, the Combat 27 Action Badge, the Good Conduct Medal, the Afghanistan 28 Campaign Medal, the Army Service Ribbon, the Global War on 29 Terrorism Service Medal, the National Defense Service Medal, 30 and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal; and 31 WHEREAS, As a true example of heroism, patriotism, and service to 32 his country and his fellow soldiers, it is fitting and proper for the 33 Legislature of the State of New Jersey to honor the patriotism of 34 Army Specialist Benjamin Moore and the 693rd Sapper 35 Company by designating the bridge over Crosswicks Creek on 36 Interstate Highway Route 295 North as the “Benjamin Moore 37 and the 693rd Sapper Company Memorial Highway”; now, 38 therefore, 39 40 BE IT ENACTED by the Senate and General Assembly of the State 41 of New Jersey: 42 43 1. The Commissioner of Transportation shall designate the 44 bridge over Crosswicks Creek on Interstate Highway Route 295 45 North in the Township of Bordentown and the Township of 46 Hamilton, extending from milepost 57.5 to milepost 58 as the 47 “Benjamin Moore and the 693rd Sapper Company Memorial 48 S1433 SINGLETON 3 Highway” and erect appropriate signs bearing this designation and 1 dedication. 2 3 2. State or other public funds shall not be used for producing, 4 purchasing, or erecting signs bearing the designation established 5 pursuant to section 1 of this act. The Commissioner of 6 Transportation is authorized to receive gifts, grants, or other 7 financial assistance from private sources for the purpose of funding 8 or reimbursing the Department of Transportation for the costs 9 associated with producing, purchasing, erecting, and maintaining 10 signs bearing the designation established pursuant to section 1 of 11 this act and entering into agreements related thereto, with private 12 sources, including but not limited to non-governmental non-profit, 13 educational, or charitable entities or institutions. Work shall not 14 proceed and funding shall not be accepted by the Department of 15 Transportation until an agreement has been reached with a 16 responsible party for paying the costs associated with producing, 17 purchasing, erecting, and maintaining the signs. 18 19 3. This act shall take effect immediately. 20
