SENATE RESOLUTION—Inducting Richard Bryan into the Senate 
Hall of Fame. 
 WHEREAS, The Senate of the Legislature of the State of Nevada 1 
has established a Senate Hall of Fame whose members are selected 2 
by leadership from those past Senators who have served with 3 
distinction and who have made exemplary contributions to the State 4 
of Nevada; and 5 
 WHEREAS, Richard Hudson Bryan was born in Washington, 6 
D.C. but moved at a very young age with his family to Las Vegas, 7 
where he graduated from Las Vegas High School; and 8 
 WHEREAS, Richard received his bachelor of arts degree from the 9 
University of Nevada, Reno, and his bachelor of laws degree from 10 
the University of California, Hastings College of the Law; and 11 
 WHEREAS, Richard served as a Second Lieutenant in the United 12 
States Army, and became a Captain in the Army Reserve, where he 13 
served in the Judge Advocate General Corps; and 14 
 WHEREAS, In 1966, Richard was appointed to the position of 15 
Clark County Public Defender, the youngest Public Defender in the 16 
nation at the time; and 17 
 WHEREAS, In 1968, Richard was elected to the Nevada 18 
Assembly and in 1972, he was elected to the Nevada Senate, serving 19 
4 years in the Assembly and 6 years in the Senate; and 20 
 WHEREAS, During his 10 years as a Legislator, Richard served 21 
as the Chair of the Senate Education and Senate Taxation 22

Committees, and helped pass the Corporate Gaming Act, which 1 
expanded the gaming industry in this State; and 2 
 WHEREAS, After completing his legislative service in 1978, 3 
Richard was elected Nevada Attorney General, where he worked to 4 
remove organized crime from Nevada’s gaming industry; and 5 
 WHEREAS, In 1982, Richard was elected as the 25th Governor 6 
of Nevada, where he prioritized diversifying Nevada’s economy and 7 
attracting new businesses to the State, and served as President of the 8 
Council of State Governments; and 9 
 WHEREAS, Richard was elected as a United States Senator 10 
where he served until 2001, and during his tenure he passed the 11 
Southern Nevada Public Lands Management Act and lead the fight 12 
against the Yucca Mountain nuclear waste dump; and 13 
 WHEREAS, Richard will be remembered for his resounding 14 
integrity, support of Nevada’s gaming industry, and longstanding 15 
friendship with former Senator Harry Reid; now, therefore, be it 16 
 RESOLVED BY THE SENATE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, That, for 17 
his many years of devoted service to the State of Nevada as a 18 
member of both the Nevada Senate and Assembly, as the Nevada 19 
Attorney General, the Governor of Nevada, and as a member of the 20 
United States Senate, Richard Hudson Bryan is hereby inducted into 21 
the Senate Hall of Fame of the Legislature of the State of Nevada; 22 
and be it further 23 
 RESOLVED, That this resolution becomes effective upon 24 
adoption. 25
