AN ACT relating to days of observance; requiring the Governor to 
annually proclaim certain days to be “Diwali Day,” “Eid 
al-Fitr Day,” “Vaisakhi Day” and “Vesak Day” in the 
State of Nevada; and providing other matters properly 
relating thereto. 
Legislative Counsel’s Digest: 
 Under existing law, various days, weeks and months of observance are 1 
recognized in this State. (NRS 236.018-236.095) This bill requires the Governor to 2 
annually proclaim certain days to be “Diwali Day,” “Eid al-Fitr Day,” “Vaisakhi 3 
Day” and “Vesak Day” in the State of Nevada. 4 
 
 
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN 
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 
 
 Section 1.  Chapter 236 of NRS is hereby amended by adding 1 
thereto the provisions set forth as sections 2 to 5, inclusive, of this 2 
act. 3 
 Sec. 2.  1. The Governor shall annually proclaim the 4 
fifteenth day of the eighth month of the Hindu calendar to be 5 
“Diwali Day” in the State of Nevada. 6 
 2. The proclamation may call upon the news media, 7 
educators, business and labor leaders and appropriate 8 
governmental officers to bring to the attention of the residents of 9 
Nevada the diversity and inclusion of the cultures that celebrate 10 
Diwali in the State of Nevada and throughout the world. 11

 Sec. 3.  1. The Governor shall annually proclaim the first 1 
day of the tenth month of the Islamic calendar to be “Eid al-Fitr 2 
Day” in the State of Nevada. 3 
 2. The proclamation may call upon the news media, 4 
educators, business and labor leaders and appropriate 5 
governmental officers to bring to the attention of the residents of 6 
Nevada the diversity and inclusion of the cultures that celebrate 7 
Eid al-Fitr in the State of Nevada and throughout the world. 8 
 Sec. 4.  1. The Governor shall annually proclaim the first 9 
day of the month of Vaisakh of the Sikh calendar to be “Vaisakhi 10 
Day” in the State of Nevada. 11 
 2. The proclamation may call upon the news media, 12 
educators, business and labor leaders and appropriate 13 
governmental officers to bring to the attention of the residents of 14 
Nevada the diversity and inclusion of the cultures that celebrate 15 
Vaisakhi in the State of Nevada and throughout the world. 16 
 Sec. 5.  1. The Governor shall annually proclaim the day of 17 
the first full moon in the month of May to be “Vesak Day,” also 18 
known as “Buddha Day,” in the State of Nevada. 19 
 2. The proclamation may call upon the news media, 20 
educators, business and labor leaders and appropriate 21 
governmental officers to bring to the attention of the residents of 22 
Nevada the diversity and inclusion of the cultures that celebrate 23 
Vesak in the State of Nevada and throughout the world. 24 
 Sec. 6.  This act becomes effective upon passage and approval. 25
