AN ACT relating to health care; prohibiting a provider of health 
care from providing electroconvulsive therapy to a person 
who is less than 18 years of age; and providing other 
matters properly relating thereto. 
Legislative Counsel’s Digest: 
 This bill prohibits a provider of health care from providing, or supervising the 1 
provision of, electroconvulsive therapy to a person who is less than 18 years of age 2 
regardless of whether the person or his or her parent or legal guardian is willing to 3 
authorize the therapy. This bill authorizes the imposition of professional discipline 4 
against a provider of health care who violates that prohibition. 5 
 
 
THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF NEVADA, REPRESENTED IN 
SENATE AND ASSEMBLY, DO ENACT AS FOLLOWS: 
 
 Section 1.  Chapter 629 of NRS is hereby amended by adding 1 
thereto a new section to read as follows: 2 
 1. A provider of health care shall not provide, or supervise 3 
the provision of, electroconvulsive therapy to a person who is less 4 
than 18 years of age regardless of the willingness of the person or 5 
his or her parent or legal guardian to authorize such therapy. 6 
 2. A provider of health care who violates any provision of this 7 
section is guilty of unprofessional conduct and is subject to 8 
disciplinary action by the board, agency or other entity in this 9 
State by which he or she is licensed, certified or registered. 10 
 3. As used in this section, “electroconvulsive therapy” means 11 
the induction of a major motor seizure by applying a brief intense 12

electrical current to the head of the person used to treat severe 1 
psychiatric disturbances. 2 
 Sec. 2.  This act becomes effective on July 1, 2025. 3
