Requires continuing teacher and leader education to include courses, programs and activities related to immigrant focused trauma-informed practices to support students who are dealing with adverse childhood or adolescent experiences as a result of immigration status.
Extends the powers of the monitor of the Wyandanch union free school district to include overriding of any resolutions or motions; authorizes the monitor to direct the board, superintendent, and/or other school district officers to undergo any necessary training; grants the monitor the power to approve or disapprove the appointment of the superintendent by the board of education; requires an academic improvement plan to be developed by the board of education and the monitor.
Renames the Syracuse Comprehensive Education and Workforce Training Center as the Syracuse Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts and Mathematics high school.
Eliminates the zero-emission school bus mandate; authorizes the New York state energy research and development authority conduct a study to determine the feasibility of converting school busses to zero-emission vehicles.
Relates to absentee ballots for school district elections due to a religious commitment or following such applicant's religious teaching or tenet that forbids secular activity on that day.
Establishes a half-credit course in financial education delivered by means of a comprehensive financial literacy program for all pupils in grades nine, ten, eleven or twelve.
Authorizes the monitor of the Rochester city school district to recommend the removal of any member of such board of education to the commissioner of education.
Requires a local transportation regulatory agency to review school safety plans for traffic and transportation issues prior to the issuance of a building permit for a new school facility or the expansion or renovation of an existing school facility.
Directs the education department to conduct a study to evaluate services provided by public library systems of the state to determine if the current funding standards are adequate and equitably enable libraries to meet community needs across the state; makes related provisions.
