A R E S O L U T I O N
Honoring John Groce as the 2025 MAC Coach of the
Year.
WHEREAS, The members of the House of Representatives of the 136th
General Assembly of Ohio are pleased to pay tribute to John Groce on
being selected as the 2025 Mid-American Conference Coach of the Year
in men’s basketball; and
WHEREAS, John Groce is deserving of commendation, for in receiving
this richly deserved distinction, he joins the ranks of some of the
most illustrious and talented sports figures in the history of
collegiate men’s basketball. As head coach of The University of Akron
men’s basketball team, he amassed a regular conference 17-1 record,
just the second MAC team to accomplish such a feat, and led his squad
to win this year’s Mid-American Conference Championship title, and it
is fitting that he be recognized with MAC Coach of the Year honors;
and
WHEREAS, John Groce’s remarkable prowess has earned him the esteem
of fans and opponents alike, and we are pleased to recognize such
outstanding skill and sportsmanship. To his credit, he has guided the
Zips with unwavering expertise, always encouraging his players to push
forward in pursuit of victory, and his tremendous talent as a mentor
is reflected in their success. He can be proud that the example he has
set will long stand as a hallmark worthy of emulation; and
WHEREAS, In an educational system that seeks to teach the future
leaders of our state and nation the fundamentals of self-reliance and
the rewards of individual and group effort, athletic competition has
become a valuable educational tool. With tremendous patience, John
Groce has coaxed admirable performances out of his players, and the
lessons he has imparted, both on and off the court, will undoubtedly

be of great benefit to them throughout their lives; therefore be it
RESOLVED, That we, the members of the House of Representatives of
the 136th General Assembly of Ohio, in adopting this Resolution,
salute John Groce on his recent honor and extend best wishes for the
future; and be it further
RESOLVED, That the Clerk of the House of Representatives transmit
a duly authenticated copy of this Resolution to John Groce.
