HOUSE BILL 1747 By: Smith
AS INTRODUCED
An Act relating to prisons and reformatories;
amending 57 O.S. 2011, Section 528, which relates to
duties and compensation of employees of the
Department of Corrections; prohibiting the
utilization of certain payroll system; and providing
an effective date.
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 57 O.S. 2011, Section 5 28, is
amended to read as follows:
Section 528. A. The Director of the Department of Corrections
shall appoint and fix the duties and compensation of employees
necessary to carry out the duties imposed upon the Department of
Corrections by law.
B. Effective November 1, 2021, utilization of supplemental
payroll on the People Soft system by the Central Human Resources Unit
of the Department of Corrections shall be discontinued. The
Department shall be prohibited from processing and issuing paychecks
to employees of the Department from any type of supplemental payroll

system. All employees of the Department shall have their paychecks
processed and issued through the main payroll system.
C. The State Board of Corrections shall appoint the Director of
the Department of Corrections with the advice and consent of the
Senate. The salary of the Director shall be set by the Legislature
in the annual appropriation bill.
SECTION 2. This act shall become effective November 1, 2021.
