AS INTRODUCED 
 
An Act relating to statewide accessibility signage; 
amending 11 O.S. 2021, Section 36-101A, which relates 
to physically disabled parking and access signage; 
requiring signage changes; and provid ing an effective 
date. 
 
 
 
 
 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA: 
SECTION 1.    AMENDATORY     11 O.S. 2021, Section 36-101A, is 
amended to read as follows : 
Section 36-101A.  A. Cities and towns are hereby authorized to 
construct and provide parking spaces, curb c uts, ramps and signage 
for physically disabled parking and access for use in conjunc tion 
with facilities, both public and private, open to the general 
public.  The city or town may bear the cost of such construction, or 
at the option of the city or town an d the owner of such facilities, 
share the cost of such construction with the owner o f such 
facilities. 
B.  Beginning January 1, 2010, the The posted signage for every

the parking of a motor vehicle operated by or transporting a 
physically disabled person shall display sign R7-8, as provided in 
the latest edition of the Manual on Uniform Tr affic Control Devices 
published by the Federal Highway Administration of the United States 
Department of Transportation a sign which must be tw elve (12) inches 
by eighteen (18) inches or larger and must use a design of the 
modernized International Symbol f or Accessibility, which shall 
depict a figure leaning f orward in a wheelchair , which includes the 
words "RESERVED PARKING" and the blue and white inte rnational symbol 
of access.  Van-accessible physically disabled reserved parking 
spaces shall also display sign R7-8a immediately below sign R7-8 as 
provided in the latest edition of the Manual on Uniform Traff ic 
Control Devices published by the Federal Highway Administration of 
the United States Department of Transportatio n a sign which must be 
twelve (12) inches by eighteen (18) inches or larger and must use a 
design of the modernized International Symbol for Accessibility, 
which shall depict a figure leaning f orward in a wheelchair .  
Municipalities shall adopt ordinances in compliance with this 
subsection by January 1, 2010 January 1, 2023.  The provisions of 
this section shall be considered an addition to an y federal or state 
law, rule or regulation regarding the signage requirements for 
physically disabled parking spaces and shall not limit or amend any 
other applicable laws, ru les or regulations.

C.  The blue and white international symbol of access, 
accompanied by appropriate language including, but not limited to, 
"Handicapped Parking", "Reserved for Handicapped" and "Permit 
Required-Towing Enforced" may be used in lieu of sig n R7-8 if the 
sign was erected prior to January 1, 2010 January 1, 2023. 
SECTION 2.  This act shall become effective November 1, 2022.
