AS INTRODUCED 
 
An Act relating to professions and occupations; 
amending 59 O.S. 2021, Section 161.10a, which relates 
to the Oklahoma Chiropractic Pra ctice Act; modifying 
continuing education requirements; and providing an 
effective date. 
 
 
 
 
 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA: 
SECTION 1.     AMENDATORY     59 O.S. 202 1, Section 161.10a, is 
amended to read as follows: 
Section 161.10a A.  At least ninety (90) calendar days prior to 
the date of a proposed continuing education course, an Applications 
to provide chiropractic continuing education seminars shall be 
submitted for review and approval by the Board of Chiropractic 
Examiners.  An applicant, association or entity shall submit to the 
Board for approval: 
1.  An application to provide continuing ed ucation in this 
state; 
2.  The agenda for the continuing education semi nar;

3.  The professional background of th e instructors; and 
4.  A summary of the courses to be taught at the continuing 
education seminar. 
B.  No later than sixty (60) calendar days af ter submission of 
the application, the Board of Chiropractic Examiners shall either 
approve or reject the continu ing education seminar Prior to approval 
of an application, the Board may authorize the Executive Director to 
temporarily approve applications, or amendments to an application, 
pursuant to the requirem ents specified by this section and the rules 
approved by the Board for continuing education programs. Continuing 
education credits may only be counted for seminars receiving final 
Board approval. 
C.  A continuing education program shall offer seminars 
providing continuing education on those subjects within the scope of 
practice of chiropractic as well as those technical, professional, 
and practical subjects that relate to the practice of chiropractic 
as included in Section 161.8 of Title 59 of the Oklahoma Statutes 
this title.  Instructors at continuing education seminars may sell 
products as long as the sale of such products is ancillary to the 
purpose of the seminar. 
D.  Each year a chiropractic physician must attend sixteen (16) 
hours of continuing education.  Twelve (12) hours must be withi n the 
scope of practice of chiropractic as well as those technical, 
professional, and practical subjects that relate to the practice of

chiropractic as included in Section 161.8 of this title.  A maximum 
of four (4) hours may be non -clinical in nature. 
E.  Beginning January 1, 2006, a A maximum of eight (8) hours of 
the annual Oklahoma continuing education requirements may be 
obtained by a continuing education program outside this state if the 
out-of-state continuing education progra m is approved by the Boa rd. 
F.  Chiropractic physicians who have not been in active practice 
during the previous year shall be exempt from that calendar year 's 
continuing education requirements.  However, prior to returning to 
active practice, the chiropra ctor must have attended the required 
continuing education during the previous calendar year. 
G.  All licensed chiropractic physicians must attend a minimum 
of eight (8) hours of in -state continuing education programs 
approved by the Board of Chiropractic E xaminers. 
H.  The Board may waive the requirements for continuing 
education, if the licensee was prevented from attending by illness 
or extenuating circumstances, as determined by the Board.  In 
waiving the continuing education requirements for any given y ear, 
the Board may require the licensee to make up the hours in the 
succeeding year as a condition for license renewal. 
SECTION 2.  This act shall become effective November 1, 2023.
