AS INTRODUCED
An Act relating to schools; amending 70 O.S. 2021,
Section 5-137, which relates to school nurses;
clarifying definition ; providing for yearly salary
increments based on years of experience; requiring
recognition of years of outside nursing experience in
determining salary; providing an effective date ; and
declaring an emergency .
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA:
SECTION 1. AMENDATORY 70 O.S. 2021, Section 5 -137, is
amended to read as follow s:
Section 5-137. A. Registered nurses serving as school nurses ,
as defined in Section 1 -116 of this title, who are employed full
time by a school district shall qualify for yearly salary increments
based on years of experience the same as any other teacher in the
public schools.
B. Registered nurses serving as school nurses with year s of
nursing experience which are not obtained in the public schools,
shall be recognized for their previous years of nursing experience
when determining their contracted salary with a school distric t.

SECTION 2. This act shall become effective July 1, 2023.
SECTION 3. It being immediately necessary for the preservati on
of the public peace, health or safety, an emergency is here by
declared to exist, by reason whereof thi s act shall take effect and
be in full force from and after its passage and approval.
