AS INTRODUCED 
 
An Act relating to legal tender; mandating that 
certain organizations accept cash as legal tender for 
activities and contests ; prohibiting fees and 
discounts; clarifying acceptance of other forms of 
legal tender; defining term; providing for 
codification; providing an effective date ; and 
declaring an emergency . 
 
 
 
 
 
BE IT ENACTED BY THE PEOPLE OF THE STATE OF OKLAHOMA: 
SECTION 1.     NEW LAW     A new secti on of law to be codified 
in the Oklahoma Statutes a s Section 821.20 of Title 70, unless there 
is created a duplication in numbering, reads as follows: 
Any private organization or association which charges school s or 
school districts a membership fee, retains a portion of revenue 
generated by an interschola stic activity or contest of the member 
schools, and provides the coordination, supervision, and regulation 
of the interscholastic activity or contest shall accept cash as 
legal tender for admission to any activity or contest.  There shall 
be no increased charge for the use of cash nor shall there be a 
discount for the use of another payment method.  Nothing in this act

shall be interpreted as prohibiting the acceptance of noncash forms 
of legal tender. 
As used in this act, the term "cash" refers to the United States 
dollar. 
SECTION 2.  This act shall become effective July 1, 2024. 
SECTION 3.  It being immediately necessary for the p reservation 
of the public peace, health or safety, an emergency is hereby 
declared to exist, by reason whereof thi s act shall take effect and 
be in full force from and after its passage and approval.
