Digest: The Act tells DHS to study statutes about background checks and make a report. (Flesch

Requires the Department of Human Services to review the statutes of this state to identify all
instances of required background checks, similarities and differences in the different background
checks, and report on options to consolidate and reduce the number of different background checks
for similar purposes or programs. Directs the department to submit findings to the interim commit-
tees of the Legislative Assembly related to human services not later than September 15, 2026.
Sunsets on January 2, 2027.
A BILL FOR AN ACT
Relating to background checks.
Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon:
SECTION 1.	The Department of Human Services shall review the statutes of this state
to identify all instances of required background checks, similarities and differences in the
different background checks, and report on options to consolidate and reduce the number
of different background checks for similar purposes or programs. The department shall
submit a report in the manner provided by ORS 192.245, and may include recommendations
for legislation, to the interim committees of the Legislative Assembly related to human
services no later than September 15, 2026.
SECTION 2.	Section 1 of this 2025 Act is repealed on January 2, 2027.
