Declares an emergency, effective on passage. A BILL FOR AN ACT Relating to the protection of salmon; and declaring an emergency. Be It Enacted by the People of the State of Oregon: SECTION 1. (1) The Legislative Assembly finds and declares that smallmouth bass prey on juvenile salmon. (2) The State Department of Fish and Wildlife shall: (a) Establish a program to monitor the introduction of smallmouth bass to rivers other than the Columbia River that drain into the Pacific Ocean. (b) Support programs to eradicate smallmouth bass that are within rivers other than the Columbia River that drain into the Pacific Ocean. SECTION 2. There is appropriated to the State Department of Fish and Wildlife, for the biennium beginning July 1, 2025, out of the General Fund, the amount of $1,000,000, for the purpose of carrying out the provisions of section 1 of this 2025 Act. SECTION 3.This 2025 Act being necessary for the immediate preservation of the public peace, health and safety, an emergency is declared to exist, and this 2025 Act takes effect on its passage.
