Biography

Morgan Meyer has been a prominent figure in Texas politics since his election as a State Representative for House District 108 in 2014. With his extensive background in law and a commitment to his community, he has dedicated himself to various causes, particularly in education, human trafficking prevention, and fiscal responsibility. Currently serving as Chair of the House Ways and Means Committee, Meyer plays a crucial role in shaping Texas tax policy and advocating for property tax relief.

Meyer’s legislative initiatives have placed significant emphasis on education. As the only member from North Texas on the Public Education Committee in 2019, he was integral to the passage of House Bill 3, a comprehensive school finance reform that increased funding for student allocations and essential programs such as Pre-K and dyslexia screening. This legislation was pivotal in ensuring better educational outcomes for students in his district.

In addition to his work on education, Meyer is a strong advocate against human trafficking and sex crimes. His efforts have led to the establishment of Texas's most comprehensive anti-trafficking laws, enhancing the ability to prosecute offenders and expand the legal definition of trafficking. For his work in this area, he has received multiple awards, including the “Protect Her Award” from New Friends New Life, which acknowledges his commitment to combating the exploitation of women and children.

During his tenure, Meyer has sponsored several impactful bills, including:

  • House Bill 2, aimed at providing property tax relief through adjustments to the public school finance system, potentially affecting funding for critical services.
  • House Bill 300, which seeks to exempt certain family care items from sales tax — an acknowledgment of the financial burdens faced by families.
  • House Bill 4069 (the Scout Meyer Act), which mandates price transparency in emergency veterinary services, reflecting his attention to consumer rights and animal welfare.

Meyer’s political leanings can be characterized as conservative, evident from his alignment with both the Texas Conservative Coalition and various business associations that award him for his legislative work. He has been recognized as a “Conservative Champion” and a “Champion for Free Enterprise,” reflecting his commitment to fiscal responsibility and conservative principles across various policies. His chairmanship of the Ways and Means Committee indicates a focused approach on taxation and finance, often advocating for legislation that promotes economic growth and reduces tax burdens on citizens.

A dedicated community member, Meyer resides in University Park with his wife, Keana, and their three children. He has deep roots in the area, having lived in various parts of District 108 for over two decades. The Meyer family actively participates in community service, particularly in efforts to combat child trafficking and support women escaping abusive situations. Apart from his political career, Meyer is a partner at Wick Phillips law firm, where he has focused on protecting business interests, showcasing his professional endeavors in tandem with his public service.
