A N   A C T 
RELATING TO INSURANCE -- ACCIDENT AND SICKNESS INSURANCE POLICIES -- 
PHYSICAL THERAPY COP AY

It is enacted by the General Assembly as follows: 
SECTION 1. Chapter 27-18 of the General Laws entitled "Accident and Sickness Insurance 1 
Policies" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 2 
27-18-91. Physical therapists.     3 
(a) An individual or group health insurance plan or policy delivered, issued for delivery, or 4 
renewed in this state on or after January 1, 2024, shall not impose a copayment, coinsurance, or 5 
office visit deductible amount charged to the insured for services rendered by a physical therapist 6 
licensed under § 5-40-7 that is greater than the copayment, coinsurance or office visit deductible 7 
amount charged to the insured for the services of a primary care physician or osteopath licensed 8 
under chapter 37 of title 5. 9 
(b) An insurer shall state clearly the availability of physical therapy coverage under its plan 10 
and all related limitations, conditions, and exclusions. 11 
SECTION 2. Chapter 27-19 of the General Laws entitled "Nonprofit Hospital Service 12 
Corporations" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 13 
27-19-83. Physical therapists.     14 
(a) An individual or group health insurance plan or policy delivered, issued for delivery, or 15 
renewed in this state on or after January 1, 2024, shall not impose a copayment, coinsurance, or 16 
office visit deductible amount charged to the insured for services rendered by a physical therapist 17 
licensed under § 5-40-7 that is greater than the copayment, coinsurance or office visit deductible 18

Corporations" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 6 
27-20-79. Physical therapists.     7 
(a) An individual or group health insurance plan or policy delivered, issued for delivery, or 8 
renewed in this state on or after January 1, 2024, shall not impose a copayment, coinsurance, or 9 
office visit deductible amount charged to the insured for services rendered by a physical therapist 10 
licensed under § 5-40-7 that is greater than the copayment, coinsurance or office visit deductible 11 
amount charged to the insured for the services of a primary care physician or osteopath licensed 12 
under chapter 37 of title 5. 13 
(b) An insurer shall state clearly the availability of physical therapy coverage under its plan 14 
and all related limitations, conditions, and exclusions. 15 
SECTION 4. Chapter 27-41 of the General Laws entitled "Health Maintenance 16 
Organizations" is hereby amended by adding thereto the following section: 17 
27-41-96. Physical therapists.     18 
(a) An individual or group health insurance plan or policy delivered, issued for delivery, or 19 
renewed in this state on or after January 1, 2024, shall not impose a copayment, coinsurance, or 20 
office visit deductible amount charged to the insured for services rendered by a physical therapist 21 
licensed under § 5-40-7 that is greater than the copayment, coinsurance or office visit deductible 22 
amount charged to the insured for the services of a primary care physician or osteopath licensed 23 
under chapter 37 of title 5.  24 
(b) An insurer shall state clearly the availability of physical therapy coverage under its plan 25 
and all related limitations, conditions, and exclusions. 26 
SECTION 5. This act shall take effect upon passage. 27

This act would limit copays, coinsurance or office deductibles for services of a physical 1 
therapist to the amount authorized for the services of a primary care physician or osteopath. 2 
This act would take effect upon passage. 3
